    that this meme will probably gain some traction.

    i recently heard a right-wing futurist guy talk about how chinese manufacturers and wal-mart are trying really hard to figure out a way to make a car, and sell it for $5,000, that will have airbags, GPS, and an onstar-like service.  i'm not happy about it, but i would not bet against china and wal-mart on this.

    it sucks, but in an age where all labor is outsourced, it's a miracle that detroit has held on as long as it has.  the market, as long as we continue to allow it to do so, will walmartify EVERYTHING.  in such a paradigm, anybody making $30 and hour is a squeaky wheel just begging to get greased.

    of course, the root cause of this is twofold - markets have gone global while governments have not, and what local regulation of markets existed has, at least in america, been largely rolled back.

    a bailout of of the big three is not the answer.  the big three will never be profitable when they're competing against countries/companies with no labor unions and no minimum wage.  the only long term solutions are local protectionism or some kind of global authority to regulate global markets.
