  •  "Straight marriage"? (12+ / 0-)

I am completely with you on the erasing of gays in the No on 8 campaign.

But I disagree with the idea of "gay marriage."  The law speaks of marriage.  There isn't a "straight marriage"; there's just...marriage.  We don't speak about white voting rights and black voting rights, we just speak about voting rights.  Gay and lesbian couples are excluded, not from straight marriage, but marriage.  So using 'marriage equality' makes sense.  In this case, I don't think gay men and lesbians are erased.

In the No on 8 campaign, we were.

There are so many different types of marriage - asexual or companionate marriages, gay marriages, androgynous marriages, straight marriages, lesbian marriages, transgender marriages, etc....

The idea is that marriage is a bond of two people joining voluntarily to live their lives and share love, posessions, children (perhaps), etc....

Obviously, the state has no reason to be interested in who, what, or why as long as it is voluntary and mutual.
