    As I see it, "marriage equality" is an accurate descriptor for what we're after.

    "Gay marriage", "same-sex marriage", etc. are attempts to segregate us.

    There's only one kind of marriage that anyone's voting on, the civil contract kind.  It's called "marriage" and involves a "marriage license", not a "same-sex marriage license" or an "interracial marriage license" or an "opposite-sex marriage license".  

    Calling our relationships by another name, whether it's "civil unions" or "gay marriages" allows people to think of "marriage" and "gay marriage" as two different concepts, which makes it easier to discriminate.

    Once you acknowledge that there's just one kind of marriage, and marriage equality in some states, and marriage discrimination against lesbian & gay couples elsewhere, it's a lot easier to line up on the side of justice.
