the Congressional Dems need to be stern and harsh in their resistance. I don't advocate taking away basic privileges (no keeping GOP members off of conference committees, pulling the plug on GOP meetings, and the other shit that the GOP did when they held Congress), but do NOTHING in the way of compromise or outreach. No votes for favorite perks, no allowing Republicans any riders on bills, not a goddamn thing until they learn to act like adults and start working alongside their Democratic opponents. No one should expect the GOP to become subservient lapdogs, but they can channel their opposition with respect for the institution, respect for the opposition, respect for the citizenry, and a shared determination to actually rebuild and reinvigorate this nation.

Are you laughing yet? I am. Those motherfuckers will never change. Maybe a new and more sensible generation of Republicans will...?

And, often, Pelosi and Reid obliged. Which is what pisses me off about them. I went bonkers when Reid gave a nice friendly speech about Ted Stevens on his last day, calling him a lion and practically kissing his toes. That should have never happened! Reid could have kept his mouth shut, or simply said hey, thanks for all your years of service. Period. But to go on like he did -- WTF? This is not part of "working together."

I agree with you that Dems should be tough on the GOPers. And don't back down. Ever.
