buy textiles made in the US?   It's pretty hard to find them anymore.

What you're seeing is the upscale edition of what happened in the blue collar economy here.  Move industries, or hire labor from overseas at a cheaper rate than you would have to pay someone here.  This cuts your cost - but also acts as a depressant on wages here.

I've seen this happen in an entire industry.  The professionals who once made a solid living in the field have either left, or are actively discouraged.  What happened to them is not an inability to keep up with the technology, a lack of quality, or even a lack of skills.  As more offshore companies moved into the field, and began a process of shifting work overseas - using H1B for their people here. They underbid contracts to get them.   It's hard to "compete" when someone is paying less than a quarter of what you're paying.  The result was that people are actually making less than they made 20 years ago - and working harder to make that.    So, if you ever want to wonder why most of your tech support, banking information, and medical record are handled overseas, now you know.

I think that I have had enough of you telling me how things will be. Today I choose a new way to go ... and it goes through you!
