    I don't think Mormons have ever experienced this sort of anger against their church, at least in the last 30 years or so.  Nonviolent protests aimed at the LDS church could cause them to pause before trying to shove their fundamentalism down everyone else's throats again.

    They had to lie, a lot, to get this to pass. The Mormon leadership clearly knows it was on shaky ground to begin with. The backlash can't be reassuring.

    And based on the number of ex-mormons I've known in my life, the church already has a problem with retention of membership - it's only population growth via large families and aggressive recruitment abroad that is sustaining their numbers. They have an illusion of strength based on their concentration in one geographic area, which sustains and emboldens church members throughout the country - but with even Salt Lake City trending blue, the writing is on the wall.

      In thirty years yes, but Mormons used to be chased out of towns by violent mobs.  Kind of similar to what they are doing now, don't ya think?  :D
