... what makes Thanksgiving (and Christmas and Easter) bearable for me is the two-day family cook-a-thon.  I usually do the cooking myself, or Springoff the Fifth helps, but for those three holidays we have a family tradition of everyone being in the kitchen helping prepare his/her favorite dish.

That is, without a doubt, the most special family time we have all year, filled with laughter (some of it at jokes, most of it at the many ways one can make a fool of oneself in a kitchen) and the warmth of sharing in the creation of our family celebration.  If we stripped the menu down, we'd also be stripping out that wonderful two-day cook-a-thon, and all that would be left is getting irritable because there are too many of us in each others' way when everyone is here.

So ... for the sake of my sanity, and of enjoying what has become a cherished family tradition ... I'll have to pass on cutting down the menu.  Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without Springoff the Fourth determinedly (but thus far unsuccessfully) trying to craft homemade crescent rolls....
