  •  Supply/Demand in vaccine market. (0+ / 0-)

The price of a vial of flu vaccine has dropped this season by almost 30% per vial. I assume it is due to the big overproduction that occurred after the huge shortage two years ago. I have rarely seen supply/ demand at work in the vaccine market. Vaccine makers usually set their prices and there is no negotiating or shopping around unless you are in a huge buying group.

    •  manufacturing capacity has expanded as well (0+ / 0-)

as a part of pandemic prep. Also, this year all children are recommended for the shot so the market has expanded.

      •  I wish it wasn't so difficult (0+ / 0-)

to get the kid in for one in the narrow timeslot between "we have vaccine" and "why bother, it's too late to help". I also wish that her doctor's office or her dad's doctor's office would allow them to go in and get their shots together. I think it would be far easier if she saw that Dad had to get one too. People suggest the drugstore days to me, but she needs someone patient and with time and experience with pediatrics, not someone looking at a long line of grumpy people.

Whoever figures out a way to give painless, needlefree shots should get a Nobel Prize. Probably all of the Nobel Prizes.

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!

          and is painless ;-0

In CT we have been experimenting with school based vaccine clinics. We also have "drive through" (stay in your car, bring the family) vaccine clinics at schools on weekends which also function as panflu practice/mass vaccination drills.
