"work" above could be thought of in the pure Newtonian sense.  In that sense, nature wastes nothing.  Every action in nature serves a purpose, even "death" which could be thought of as garbage.  In nature all the "garbage" gets "recycled."

And we need to redefine wealth.  Isn't that clear?

Maybe instead of measuring the number of TVs and cars, we measure the amount of leisure time, enhanced lifespan, improved literacy rates, increased happiness.

    See?

      Redefining wealth:

Free time, liberty, literacy & numeracy, access to knowledge, ability to engage in the creative pursuits (science, religion, philosophy, the arts, athletics, and so on: activities in which humans can stretch their limits and potentially create or achieve or discover something of lasting value).

Engagement with family and close friends.

Full access to physical necessities: food, clothing, shelter, cleanliness, physical safety, health, and so on.  This is the area where it's a zero-sum game: a fixed pie does not grow; me having more slices means you having fewer, thus the need to redefine our physical necessities more realistically so we all have enough and no one has not-enough.

      Yeah I'm there.
