what I hope my granted, long, diary is trying to say is how do we overcome bigotry at the ballot?  How do we keep the bigots from convincing uninformed people, (overcoming say fear or their religious "authorities")?  While I believe likely the Courts can have a place, there still is a question what can be done?  Do we just sit back and wait for the older people to die?  Or do we continue to fight for people's rights?  I think the latter is more effective.

We continue to fight for our rights, taking comfort that every two years, thousands of those who voted against us the last time have died or become incapacitated, and thousands of young people have come of age and registered for the first time.

      Ti - i - i - ime, is on our side.

it's a generational thing. look at how long it took the powers that be to allow the thought that women should  have equality at the voting booth to acquiesce. the "gay marriage" issue is greater than just 'marriage'. it is economic equality. and it probably won't be resolved until we codify civil unions of which marriage and domestic partnerships will be a subset.
