      Actually, the specifics on various roofing goes beyond my 'tip of the toungue' knowledge base and sends me to reference material. The discussion that is linked has links into real experts / such reference material.  There are different qualities / values to the albedo factor and longevity of different roofing options.

      In many situations, 'green roofing' has more value -- but it is a much more significant upfront cost with a longer payback period. And, it is not as easy to 'retrofit' as simply 'white roofing'.

          You're allowed to compliment Ford directly.  

          An issue is that the fiscal structure makes a green roof on an industrial factory somewhat 'good will gesture' rather than fully cost-effective as it is hard to value the 'external' benefits (reduced air pollution, etc ...).  Don't know specifics of the ROI of River Rouge, but generally such commercial green roofs often fall outside 'normal' internal investment guidelines and are done for 'goodwill' and similiar benefits (unless communities have significant valuing of storm water runoff/such reduction).
