you are a millionaire who has the connections to raise the money needed, and to spread a persuasive appeal in order to win an election to a very exclusive Club with 535 members.  The Senate is far more exclusive than the House.  Look at how Senators can demand, with impunity, massive concessions from union workers and their retirees while asking nothing from shareholders and management.  Even if Obama is pro-worker, the Senate's actions over the last 30 years haven't been all that friendly to workers.

A number of have pointed out that for about $3 billion each, the taxpayers could buy GM and Ford's stock, and nationalize them.  That's be a real savings over any other plan the Senate is considering.  Same deal applies for the failing banks.  Since their stock is so low, just buy them and nationalize.  Write down what has to be written down, and move on.  Why does our Congress seem intent on cutting deals that keep the mega-rich and stockholder classes in the black but throws millions of workers out the door of employment and home?  It is amazing our captains of industry are deemed immune to suffering, when they are a major contributor to the shipwreck?
