  •  Mark Begich is a CLOWN (0+ / 0-)

    Suprised noone listens.

Today he made an ass of himself on Morning Joe, haven't seen it but heard about it, and it sounds typical.
    Hopefully Jed L publishes it.

Second he begged and pleaded for mercy to be shown to the convicted felon Ted Stevens.

Funny how NOONE noticed this the last 4 days.

(This is relevant because I could see Salazar saying and doing the SAME thing)

      That might tell you something.

      •  Wow, so you think (0+ / 0-)

most Kos diarist and writers saw this article and it didn't bother them that much.

I guess Dems being weak on crime may have been one meme the GOP got right.

So what will it take before Begich crosses the line?

Im not saying we should censure the guy, but really are we going to let him go "Independent" as he says?

I just can't stomach the idea that 20 years from now Begich might be the new Joe Lieberman with Steven's style tenure.

Being as politically mute as say Minnesota I could see AK electing a Senator who calls himself a Democrat for decades.

        •  Why don't you wait 20 years and find out... (1+ / 0-)

 might save yourself the freakout.

I can't stomach people being so reactionary they can't just wait for someone to make a mistake before they attack them on it.

I grew up in Alaska.  Begich is not going to be the kind of democrat that you or many others want him to be.  But we can hope he will be the kind of democrat that sticks around in Alaskan politics.

          •  Dawn, I grew up in Maryland (0+ / 0-)

And I still live here, and his behavior is typical for many of our worthless politicians (minus Cummings and Simpson).
So folks, don't acceept that it's ok to be a conservative Democrat in the sticks, here in the big cities of Baltimore and Annapolosis the DLC and Bush-dog Dems reigns supreme.
The only difference is that we are a blue state.

My beef is that we just brought in a Senator who obviously has no staff, because no staff would let him volunteer that horrid opinion to the press and staff wouldn't let him make a fool of himself on morning joe.

I guess I am handringing because of a failure of our Senate caucus this year.

Am I being reactionary?  What if Palin had came out and said the EXACT SAME THING,  trust me, people here would freak out, the media would freak out, the anchorage newspaper would etc etc.

Also, I am a strong believer in the "Every Senator is Special" philosophy (well i made it up).  What I am saying is although some Senators have committees and seniority, all of our caucus members count.

So why would he be making statements on day 10 that have nothing to do with the DNC message.

I am curious as to what that radio lady I see on Rachel Maddow has to say about this.

...without the benefit of your overbearing judgement?

I am going to wait and see what kind of senator Begich and his freshment collegues are going to be before I freak out.  If that's okay with you.

    •  My sister is an AK resident who was heavily Obama (0+ / 0-)

And she was very, very leery of Begich, especially after talking at length with his office.

Yes, I'm very happy we have a D next to someone's name in elected national office in AK (first step in a long process), but I sincerely hope no one in the blogosphere is expecting some progressive rising star out of him that makes all of us happy.

      •  I thought the blogosphere was about action? (0+ / 0-)

My point is are we gonna let the the GOP or DLC get this guy without a fight.

Now back to Begich and this whole topic of Stevens, its not a left or right thing, it competent vs incompetent politician thing.

Do you think for a second Obama would EVER have done this now or in his past?

Im not looking for liberal heros, I am looking for QUALITY politicians to represent the Democratic party.

I could give a damn about what you believe if you lack the skills to be an effective politician.
If that was the case I would vote Green and Libertaian, but since I want change I choose serious politicians over pompous academics.

And thats why I love my mancrush Barack Obama so much, beause not only do I agree with his policy and ideas 99%, I also love him because he is a brilliant politician.

And in some way, at this point, politically speaking I respect Stevens more than Begich, because whatever politicaly shrewd move Begich thought he would pull off, reverse those tables and Stevens would given him no parole and gotten a rise in approval ratings as they locked that jail door.

Obama brought strength and some spine to the Dems this summer, how it wasn't contagious to someone like Begich is beyond me (Begich, I recommend you watch Obama's DNC speech, there is a party where he proclaims "ENOUGH!",,   pay attention)

    •  "I haven't seen it but heard about it" (0+ / 0-)

      that's mighty damning hearsay.
