  •  Removing Roads? (3+ / 0-)

This is going to happen about the same time Salma Hayek calls me up for a date. The road construction industry is to state government what the military industrial complex is to the federal government. Georgia has some of the smoothest roads in the country because they have to be repaved every few years- not because they are worn out, but because somebody's brother or cousin needs a job. The system is corrupt, the contracts not fairly handed out, and nothing is going to change anytime soon.

      •  One mile spur (0+ / 0-)

It was an underused, one mile spur that was never completed, downtown in a major city that everybody hated. And even with that, it was a huge battle to get it removed. That really goes more to proving my point than anything.

they did not restore transit at the same time to an excellent system they once had. They had an excellent interurban electric rail system (the TMERL) until the early 1950s.

Conservatives in SE Wisconsin hate public transit and have currently thrown the bus system into a death spiral of increasing fares and decreasing service, while blocking all attempts to bring in light, heavy and commuter rail. The railphobic punditry is legendary in this area. Read all about it at the Political Environment.
