  •  Except that after collecting the info, he bowed (7+ / 0-)

to pressure from the Dem. Leadership , and withheld the report until January of 1993, too late to impeach Reagan or PoppaBush.

An earlier release might have prevented Bill Clinton's nomination, as he appears to have had a role, as Governor, at least as an accessory after the fact, killing off an investigation by the Arkansas State Patrol of the Mena airport offloading site. Rightwingers seizing on this connection, and attempting to inflate it to a central role in the operation, does not mean there wasn't some real evidence.

The War on Drugs is $40 billion a year of Government waste.

Wikipedia also says the report was released in 1989:

The Kerry Committee report were hearings chaired by Senator John Kerry which found the United States Department of State had paid drug traffickers. Some of these payments were after the traffickers had been indicted by federal law enforcement agencies on drug charges or while traffickers were under active investigation by these same agencies. The Kerry investigation lasted two and a half years and heard scores of witnesses; its report was released on April 13, 1989. [1] The final report was 400 pages, with an additional 600 page appendix. The committee stated "It is clear that individuals who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking...and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers."

The BCCI report was released in Dec. 1992.  Perhaps that is what you are referring to?

That resulted in people like Oliver North and Eliot Abrahms being indicted. Kerry himself was excluded from the Iran/Contra investigation - even though it was his investigation that fleshed out the "Contra" side of the Iran/Contra scandal.

I suspect that the reason the country did not impeach Bush when the report came out (or when other parts of Iran/Contra came out) was that it (like all W's evil) meant accepting that America did something evil in the world. Nixon was impeached for Watergate and Clinton for personal reasons - neither of which reflected on America in the world. It clearly was not that Kerry was lax in trying to get it out.

In addition to the fact that it was released in 1989, it seems hard to understand how the Republicans could effectively use suggestions that Clinton knew and ignored a despicable Reagan/Bush illegal action.

    •  It was the SENATE that wouldn't allow the release (4+ / 0-)

of the report until AFTER the election - it was released in Dec1992.

Kerry was bound by agreements made between senate leaders.
