  •  Yeah, but don't the ideal hydrogen cars essential (0+ / 0-)

run on water? I always understood it as it would take a certain amount of energy to perform the electrolysis but that could be done through solar panels on the roof of the car powering a battery.

It's been years since my last es course touching on this, and I remember the problem you bring up, but I could use a refresher, because it seems to me that since there is no loss of molecules in hydrogen combustion and a tremendous amount of energy releases, this energy would be enough to perform its own electrolysis as long as there were a small energy source to start the ball rolling. The idea of filling up on water at the pump certainly has its appeal...

Thanks for the info. Why they didn't tell us about space based solar in Concepts of Sustainability is beyond me. Shows you how behind the eight ball alot of us still are.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

    •  A lot of people believe that space resources (0+ / 0-)

will not happen for a very long time, because they think it'll take a technological miracle to lower the cost of going to space.

      •  Well, it's certainly a good target (0+ / 0-)

long-term anyway, and probably short term, but I still think that Hydrogen has a place somewhere in there, though not sure where/how much. Would Hydrogen powerplants be too risky for their vulnerability to human error? One wonders.
