  •   Our Campaign atUniv. Colo. Sand Creek & Nichols (4+ / 0-)

Our little group on campus (I was the only white-co-founder, along with two Navajo Charlie Caimbridge & Calvin Redhorse and a Sioux friend of mine Tim Kloberdanze) in 1968-69 - We Raised the awareness of the 18,000 students at Univ. of Colorado about Sand Creek & our campaign to re-name Nichols Hall  (a campus residence hall named after Colonel Nichols, who served under Chivington commanding Company D in the massacre.

The CU student body (assembly)voted in 1969 to re-name the hall White Antelope Hall - after the Cheyenne Chief at the massacre. Anger & consternation and Education of the massacre in the Boulder community followed. The University ignored this decision of the Student Assembly.

It took many years for the name to be officially changed at CU, Tho our group DID get $300,000 in scholarships for Native American Students awarded on an ongoing basis.

Today it is named - Cheyenne Arapahoe Hall.

Blind loyalty to self-defeating strategies is equally destructive as working for your enemy.
