Being 1 of 100 doesn't seem like his kind of thing.

Also, I don't think Vilsack wants to challenge Chuck Grassley.  I don't think that's Vilsack's kind of thing, either.

Vilsack is DLC .. so is he really much better than Grassley?  I'd rather keep Grassley and take out someone like Specter .. if Grassley retires .. then obviously we recruit someone  .. but I wouldn't actively target him

he should make all the noises and start raising a ton of money early.  By doing so, he may well get the incumbent to cede the field a la John Glenn and Dan Coats in 1998, who retired rather than face George Voinovich and Evan Bayh, respectively.

    •  Grassley would beat all comers (0+ / 0-)

And Vilsack won't challenge him, nor will smart money fund a challenge when it can be better spent elsewhere. Don't waste your hopes. Like Harkin, he looks vulnerable until about six months before the election.  Also, 57% positive is pretty good for an incumbent and he not only still has a working farm but is just independent enough to appeal to independent voters.

If Grassley doesn't run, then Vilsack is the favorite.

      •  Ridiculous (0+ / 0-)

Oh please ne we can't beat a 77 year old dude in a state carried by Obama by 9%... whine, cry... hide in the corner

        What nonsense.

If Vilsack ran he would be Grassley because... gasp... Iowa is a BLUE state, and (unlike Allen) he is about as popular as Grassley.

Jezus, defeatists begone.  Run back to the 20th century and cry about how we can't win.

        Bleech.
