    the Japanese were paying about 20 bucks per hour and not half the benefits the UAW workers enjoy.  Benefits are sometimes more meaningful than wages.

      There's so many numbers flying around, it can be hard to make good comparisons.

      But it's true that the Japanese companies (though this is starting to change now, I'm told) used UAW contracts to make decisions about compensation.  The idea was to remove incentives to unionize.

      Procrastination: Hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now.

          Try to unionize some of these foreign plants and they will move to Mexico. Every new factory is built to disassemble and move quickly. They certainly won't be blackmailed into losing money the way detroit was.

            Just watched Gettelfinger (sp) saying the UAW was getting loads of calls from the southern auto workers begging them not to give in because they know if the UAW folds, they will be working for slave wages, if any.  And he gave a list of all the concessions the states had to give to get these extortionists in the states to begin.
