    It may be based upon a hurtful, hateful subject, but it's also a form of entertainment for voyeurs of extreme and disturbing situations.  Sort of like horror movies fans, I suppose.

    The natural point becomes: at what point do we worry that entertainment begins to diminish the impact and horror of the real thing?

    I have no idea.  Have gonzo-killing movies led people to feel less empathy or caring about those who die due to real-life killing sprees by criminals?  I don't believe so, and if anything, perhaps we're more able to understand the awfulness of it all by being entertained - which includes a range of emotions and thoughts, from comforted to horrified - by such fictional media.

    This begins to get into the subject of obscenity, which has been tough to define beyond local perspectives, at least in USA law.

    "So, please stay where you are. Don't move and don't panic. Don't take off your shoes! Jobs is on the way."
