  •  Dems are weak, and culpable: ie: Blue Dogs (12+ / 0-)

I think the main reason Pelosi could not (would not) press impeachment was simply that there were not enough votes to even get to first base.

Blue Dogs are complicit in this whole mess up to their eyeballs, going all the way back to Nixon and Reagan.

The progressive caucuses in Congress remain an isolated and powerless minority, even within the Democratic majority...that's why we've had an essentially "do nothing" Congress, despite a "majority", and can expect little real progress, even with the new super-majority.

The progressives are forced to make onerous compromises to get even the slightest little thing accomplished, and that is not going to improve much in January.

I attribute this situation primarily to long-term low voter turnout...which is largely due to wide-spread disgust with "The Democrats" (ie: the Blue Dogs), who are perceived as being "no different" from the Republicans...kind of a self-perpetuating conundrum, that absolutely must be addressed if we are to maintain and expand on the momentum of the Obama campaign and presidency.

We got the "more" Democrats.  But now it's time to get the "better" Democrats in there, in the coming election cycles, to establish a progressive majority within an expanded Congressional super-majority.

Those local house meetings going on right now are so very important...we cannot let up...the campaign has just begun, really.

The Republicans, and the Blue Dogs, must be crushed, cut off at the knees, thoroughly purged from all levers of power, all up and down the ladders of power, to the greatest extent this can be accomplished, as soon as possible.

Until then, they will continue to tie us up in knots with endless "debate", foot-dragging, and outright sabotage and treason, over every singe issue.

We have extremely urgent priorities that must be addressed, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance, for justice and peace, to save the planet.  We don't have any more time for fooling around.

As Obama has clearly stated, we are going to have to keep organizing, and redouble our efforts, to "make" him do the right thing...that includes getting him the kind of real support he needs in Congress.

    The struggle continues.

    •  I might add... (5+ / 0-)

I have no doubt that many Congress critters who might like to take a bolder, more correct position have also been directly and personally threatened, and not only with "secret" dirt files that tend to be cultivated by the more unprincipled elements, especially like the FBI, et al, ever since Hoover.

Let's not forget who got the anthrax mail...all Democrats and "liberal" media.

And let's not forget how many people were assassinated, back in the day, so conveniently and "coincidentally", just before the Republicans began their long run of counter-revolutionary resurgence.

Indeed, there have continued to be somewhat suspiciously untimely deaths, since then, of some of our most prominent, promising, and well-respected leaders, like Wellstone, for example.

And, of course, you have the way that Aryan Nations, the Klan, et al, came out of the woodwork during Carter and Clinton, calling for "revolution" (counter-revolution) against "the government and the left"...threatening, and carrying out, horrendous acts of terrorism, like McVeigh.

Those right wing extremist elements may be laying low somewhat, right now, waiting for a more opportune moment, to see if Obama's popularity wanes as a result of "failure" to deal with the many deliberately contrived crises he faces...but they are organizing fervently underground, and can be expected to emerge with a vengance again, sooner or later...it could get really ugly.

Even without putting on the tin-foil hats and wallowing in conspiracy paranoia, there is good reason to think that many in Congress have felt directly and personally threatened, in more ways than one.

      Totally agree!
