    than you give them, for the simple reason that, when you look at a lot of the polling data (much of it sourced by kos on the front page in the weeks following the election), people across the nation (with places like Arkansas and other DEEP south areas being the minor exceptions) were able to look past race, easily one of the most divisive issues in this nation's history to vote based on the issues of the election, not the spin. If they can do that for something that's plagued our history for generations, it's not tough to see it happening for something that is, in electoral terms, a relatively new force.

    I think even those who are religious, most of them aren't insane, and most of them believe in medical science (if not always evolutionary biology). Now, charismatic preachers and demagouges might be able to turn them against good sense for a little while, but that was when the left didn't have a truly moving, persuasive voice. I think we now hold the trump card.

    Barack Obama's eloquence and integrity vs Sarah Palin's demagoguery? Bring it.
