60 mark Pawlenty may have considered appointing Franken if Coleman gets indicted. That is a big MAY HAVE mind you, but considering how much time and money has been spent on the recount it would not be completely out of question. But, with the Senate being such as it (especially withe Snowe rumors) is there is no way in hell Pawlenty would appoint Franken

    •  Snowe Rumors???? (0+ / 0-)

I've been off-line due to dissertation defense prep.
I'm assuming either a party switch, caucusing with the D's, appoint to cabinet with D being appointed by Maine gov...what is the rumor?

pretty below the radar stuff and I won't vouch for the level of possibility. With that said...

Snowe has advocated for the SBA to be re-elevated to a cabinet level post (it was during Clinton years). About three weeks or so back she said she would not be interested in filling such a spot, yet since then she has met with Obama officials to push the SBA re-elevation, and has sent a letter to Obama asking for the same. She is in some ways a point person for this issue. My conjecture would be that Obama may agree to the elevation if Snowe fills the slot.

Now, I am sure Republican leadership would HATE this idea, and offer her all sorts of reasons to stay in the Senate, including some plum appointments. Will it be enough? I don't know. Snowe is moderate on many issues, and has taken some flak from the more extreme elements of the party, yet she continues to remain in the party despite her ability (IMO) to run as an independent in Maine and win.
