if only for the fact that I have always felt that this was Bush's way of trying to signal that he wasn't against "science" without really being for science.  After all, space exploration doesn't really involve those pesky issues of climate change or stem cell...it's a lot of physics and engineering, and although space exploration explicitly contradicts the 6000 year old universe idea, its kinda hard to really soundbite that to the Creationists.

there was a lot of good in the vision. While I agree, we need to be involved in climate change, the idea of expanding the sphere of human activities, and in particular human economic activities, offers a number of ways to help humanity to deal with the problems it faces, whether its with hard resources, like rare metals or energy, or soft resources, like new markets.

The problem is that, much like Corporate welfare queens, Bush never had any intention of actually doing anything that involved space development.

Its time to stop selling human spaceflight on science, and start selling it on economics and resources.
