  •  Melissa is Delusional, We Have Limited Time (8+ / 0-)

I'm glad that Melissa who came out long after the rest of us, and with no world stage or money, has the ability to have immediate access to those in powwer, or who have given power by those in power.

Unfortunately, it seems like this access has clouded her mind--into being an apologist for hatred. The basic reality is that the religious conservatives hate gays and would rather we not be alive--it's not just that they are "scared" of us, or didn't want marriage to be redefined. I would ask Melissa how much "scary" a recent lesbian in the Richmond area was when she was gangraped by several men, who adhered to this Warren-ish ideology of gay hatred, and de-humanizing gay people.

Why? They fear of of being pedophiles and attacking their children when we do not (straights are almost exclusive in this). They fear that we will sexual assault them (when straight men do this almost exclusively).  They hate us, not because they want to see our "bridges to the future," but because they just do not want us to exist. How insulting to my existance.

And, yet I Melissa wants us to believe that is is only their fear of change. It is not fear, it is hatred--a deep seated, engrossing, almost genetic, animalistic, form of hatred.  And, they have instituted these policies not only by denying marriage and trying to rid it from the 18,000 who did get married, but try tried to kill us with no AIDS policy, they tried to kill us by refusing to adopt a UN policy to decriminalize homoseuxality, they try to kill us every day.  Melissa, they do know us, they just don't want to know us.

Melissa isn't a dreamer, she's delusional, for all of us who have felt the deep and brunt feel of homophobia as we were thrown from our families, isolated, and we have struggled and we have survived--in our own communities, without the access to power like those like Melissa apparently have.

I wonder how much of a dreamer Melissa would be if she saw the truly horrendous effects of this religious hatred that these conservative Christians have for gays, and gays almost exclusively. Their vile hatred  has thrown kids in the street, caused us gays to live in ghettos for safety from fear--from THEM, butchered us, raped us, beaten us, exiled us, railed against us in public, accused us of baseless crimes, accused of of the crimes that they create, let us die of AIDS, let us die in the street, tried to keep us out of public discourse, limited our rights...and laughed when we died on the street bleeding from gay-bashing wounds.

If Melissa wants to truly help, she will fight against the hatred rather than spend valuable time trying to get them to like us. It's been tried before, and it's failed.

We don't have the luxury of time.

Unfortunately for Obama, I will think twice before I give to Democrats who have shown themselves unwilling to fully stand up for me, even though I stood up for him.  Obama will not win the next election without the gay vote. Period. Maybe it will give him some time to reflect about his decision, even if they are just a "prayer" to the World.

I am tired of justifying my right to live, especially to people telling me that this does not matter.  I am tired of people telling gays to shut up, because this doesn't "matter" and it's only a "prayer." It is a prayer to the world--that includes extreme hatred toward gays and validates the vestiges of institutionalized governmental and localized discrimination.  I have seen enough.  I have seen too many friends live in pain and die for me to live in Mellisa's delusion.

Melissa's social class, position and money exclude her from the extreme and normal hatred that most gays exist within. She should recognize this before she spouts flowerly dreams lined with stupidity.

God bless you all.  Better times are coming.  The battle has not been lost, and will move forward to find a day soon where justice will prevail.  Have faith and please above all, find some peace during these holidays to remember, that you are cared for and thought of in loving ways on Daily Kos.

I understand what you are saying, and know you are an ally.
There have been so many attempts, from so many quarters we would generally expect support from these past few days to "shush" us, my own reaction is to put my foot down.
For many of us, it is too much like the "yeah, fine, you're gay, but do you have to flaunt it??!!" crap we've heard before.
It's more than a mere slight to some of us.  It's more like an attempt at triangulation, or worse, suppression.

        •  Thanks sgary, my intent is not to 'hush' anyone.. (2+ / 0-)

at intent was to send some love and compassion, and to try to help, but I think I have failed at that.

I would never attempt to slight anyone that has had to go through the kinds of things my brother did. He was treated like a leper when he got AIDS, and I produced a CD entitled, A Child Is Born, which brought together 48 of Boston's top jazz musicians as a benefit CD for children with Aids. The CD was a first of it's kind, and I learned a great deal during that time about the gay community.

As I said, I wasn't writing a political diary, I was writing one about love, peace and moving forward. The battle has not been lost, and that is really my message. To gain strength that the gay community is not alone on Kos, I'm with you all.
