If the Governor is ruling out the most qualified because they won't engage in a criminal bribe - that is an entirely different matter.

    •  The governor has the discretion under law (0+ / 0-)

to appoint whoever he wishes, so long as they meet the constitutional qualifications.  The fact that he rejected other potential appointments, for good reason, or because of corruption, is irrelevant to this particular appointment.

    •  and if they all turned him down.. (0+ / 0-)

the appointment is good to go?

Because I certainly heard the supposed top five pulled their names out?

So what is the next red herring?

      •  No, the reverse. (0+ / 0-)

If the Governor were engaged in an illegal scheme that resulted in the top contenders bowing out, the "election" process (which I believe includes the selection process for an appointment) would be fatally contaminated.

        •  It's not the "process", whatever that means; it's (1+ / 0-)

whether the appointment of Burris was wrongful.  There's no evidence that it was.

        •  Do you have evidence stating that is (0+ / 0-)

          why they pulled out?

Do you have them Governor making an offer to someone on tape?  I have seen it?

I have heard him bloviating and making a fool of himself.  I haven't heard anyone saying they were offered anything.  As a matter of fact, I have actually heard Obama's crew say they were offered anything.
