  •  Wow (3+ / 0-)

we are really reaching here.  The goals Obama have are only short term.  A trillion dollar stimulus plan, healthcare, et al is short term?  And now Burris is a swing vote.  Wow.  Most people know a lot about this guy.

He's a life long Democrat.  Harry being a jerk is the only thing that can influence that vote right now.  No matter how much one doesn't like Blags and how he is innocent until proven guilty.

    •  Yes. They do seem to know a lot about him. (0+ / 0-)

And maybe that is why he has lost in five statewide Democratic primaries.  And has lost the mayoral race in Chicago.

Given his age, the cloud under which he has entered the chamber, and his scant seniority in 2010, he's going to be a prime target.  So- you want to hurry him into the chamber to maybe get some stuff done now (with the understanding that the stimulus has been delayed even before Obama has entered office) just to make it harder to get things down after 2010?

The only thing I have to say regarding the "lifelong Democrat" business is that I know another "lifelong Democrat" from Connecticut that has helped the Republicans a lot.  Past performance is not always an indicator of future results.

Regarding Blago, you're right.  And your observation would even be germane if I had suggested that we throw him in a cell.  But even those who have yet to be proven guilty regularly have their rights (which are distinct from the powers they hold in an elected office) curtailed.  It is also not as if we have a staffer who is suggesting that Blago was doing what he is being accused of doing.  We have an audiotape!  I think that is a stronger indication to curtail his powers (which are not his rights) in office.

may you live in interesting times
