  •  The problem is (3+ / 0-)

Obama feels it is more important to lure Republican votes than to get the policy right.

We're in for a looooong four years if he doesn't change that emphasis pronto.

I think he's sincere about the "New Politics" horseshit, but at some point you have to say, "Fuck you, assholes.  You'll vote my way or you're dead."

He's a smart guy, but I really just want to slap him upside the head sometimes.

"as" important.  You cannot talk about bipartisan solutionss while campaigning and then forget the other side after being elected...or at least we hope that is how Obama functions - God knows we have had plenty of that other kind of bipartisanship under the Republicans.
Just think about it this way.  Every Republican Obama get to sign on to even a smaller bill than he would like, is a Republican under pressure to support the next - AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT - bill that may be more important than the first.  Never forget that the GOP purists will be attempting to prove Keynes wrong!  If they can manipulate the politics in such a way that they can kill the second part of the stimulus process, next year some time, they will go a long way to win that argument.  They hope to be able to force Obama into a repeat of FDRs mistake in 1938.  Getting them to sign on to this first bill will make it harder to do.

      •  That's not how the GOP works (0+ / 0-)

They oppose everything all the time and are determined to destroy Obama's presidency, ensuring he's a one-termer. Why would Obama want to work with that?

They do not care about pressure to sign a Democratic bill. They don't recognize such pressure and because we've done such a good job of taking out the vulnerable Republicans, the remainder aren't actually under a lot of pressure from constituents anyway.

        •  Well, that is indeed how they have worked (0+ / 0-)

in recent years but that has not been how they have always worked and right now, they are fighting to stay alive.  The people have finally had a bellyfull of this take-no-prisoners GOP crap and if these guys hope to keep their seat it will be smart if they pull in their horns and play nice.  These guys are where the Democrats have been and politicians have a way of doing what it takes to survive!

because we've done such a good job of taking out the vulnerable Republicans,

Do you really think that those remaining Republicans think they are bulletproof since they didn't get the boot in 2008?  Man, they aren't STUPID! There will be another election in less than two years and they will face opposition from moderate Republicans and if they make it that far from Democrats hungry for BLOOD.  What they do now might decide if they stay in Congress after 2010.

          •  Has noone actually payed (0+ / 0-)

Attention to the FUCKING CAMPAIGN. Those tax cuts do two things.
1.The help Obama keep his CAMPAIGN FUCKING PROMISES (you know the one he was saying for 2 FUCKING YEARS)
2.He gets Repubs on board since they are obsessed with tax cuts.

However it actually does a 3rd thing, it helps the economy, go figure.
