    No matter how much some hacks might claim otherwise, the full weight of the Democratic Party was not used against Prop 8.  Prop 8 should have lost, maybe lost big, as a sign of Party loyalty, if nothing else.  The California vote should have been a message to the rest of the country.  Actually, unfortunately, it was.  Look how many other states are now preparing similar measures for future elections.

    Progressive environmentalism is probably a stronger force in California than progressive politics.

    California has not become more conservative since the Briggs Initiative of 1978.  What happened with Prop 8 was, what's the term now?, an epic fail.
