    ...if I go to Mike's on Saturday, I'll know for sure.

    Still, it's 1 week to collect the signatures in what is supposed to be a week of some 16 inches of snow and 20 degree temps... not a lot of encouragement to go door-to-door or stand outside Jewel or on an el platform for hours.

      ...for the Democratic Primary, which means a candidate really needs at least 2,500 signatures to insure be able to withstand the almost certain petition challenges.  And remember, you have to do it in hust 13 days instead of 90, and do it in the dead of winter.

      My suggestion to anyone trying to find a place to collect signatures is to get your butt over to the Jefferson Park Blue Line Station, by far the busiest mass transit location in the district (where you can actually stand in a heated area).  the second-best site is probably standing on the sidewalk on Clark Street near the entrance to the Century Mall.  

      Don't assume that getting those signatures is a piece of cake.  I have been involved with local politics for over 30 years, and I have seen too many candidates botch up their petitions to count them anymore.
