    Apparently, there was a TPiR geek in the studio audience.. and he was helping contestants all taping long with the bids, as he knew from past shows exactly what a lot of the items were valued at.

    If you've seen the show, you know people get help from the audience all the time, so it's legal.  The guy took his advice exactly, and won.  (Who ever bids a number like $23,743 exactly?) There was about a 45-minute break in the taping while the producers discussed if there was anything wrong going on, eventually deciding that there was nothing to do but give the guy both showcases.
