  •  Palestine is Occupied (15+ / 0-)

    Occupied people resist occupation.

The struggle for self determination is always called terrorism by the occupying force. The founding fathers of the United States were considered terrorists by the British.

    •  british and european powers (5+ / 0-)

who invaded the US and occupied it were also considered terrorists by the native americans

    •  How do you invade a land (4+ / 0-)

      that you already occupy?

If someone was sending rockets on my house where my daughters were sleeping at night, I would do everything to stop it. Barack Obama

    •  So the attacks Mumbai were just resistance, too? (8+ / 0-)

How about the attack in Munich, at the Olympics?
How about the Bali night club bombings?
How about the Madrid train bombings?
How about the attack on London?

      How about 9/11?

After all, by simple extension, one can make the same argument for them, as well - just occupied people resisting occupation. That's what the perpetrators of those crimes will use as justification.

The NEFA Foundation has obtained and translated a new audio recording from Al-Qaida Deputy Commander Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri released on January 6 and titled, "The Massacre of Gaza and the Siege of the Traitors." During his address, Dr. al-Zawahiri condemned the ongoing Israeli raids in Gaza and blamed the actions of Israel on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and incoming U.S. President Barack Obama: "These attacks are the gift of Obama to you, before he shall receive his position... this is Obama, whom the American machinery of lies attempted to portray before the world as the deliverer, who would change the policy of the U.S. He is killing your brothers and sisters in Gaza without any mercy or compassion." As a consequence of the U.S. role in the events in Gaza, al-Zawahiri called upon Al-Qaida supporters around the world to carry out indiscriminate revenge attacks on American and Israeli interests: "O’ Muslims everywhere, fight against the Zionist-Christian campaign, and strike its interests wherever you encounter them... attack the Zionist-Christian alliance and its interests. O’ lions of Islam everywhere, the leaders of the Muslim lands are the protectors of the interests of the Americans and Zionists... so thwart the efforts of these traitors by striking the interests of the enemies of Islam—namely, the Christians and the Jews—wherever and by whatever means you can."

    •  The american patriots were fighting to (5+ / 0-)

establish a country where people could enjoy civil liberties. Hamas is fighting to build an Islamic theocracy and the Jews are driven into the sea. See the difference?

      •  So then we agree (1+ / 0-)

Both the I & P are trying to push each other into the sea, and both belong in The Hague.

Right?  You do agree, don't you?  You do recognize the shared responsiblity of Israel for this conflict?

Meanwhile, children are dying and there goes the next generation.

        •  Israel is hardly trying to push the Arabs (0+ / 0-)

into the sea. I that was their goal it would have been done a long time ago.
It is the clearly stated goal of Hamas and they are the elected government of the Gaza population which is a causus belli sufficient to justify all out war. Israel has been reluctant to wage all out war but have not been rewarded by Hamas moderation, rather escalation. This action was overdue and will likely lead to a more peaceful long term just as it has with Egypt and even Lebanon.

Would that be all Arabs or just the Palestinians?

It is clearly the stated goal of Israel to anhilate Hamas and they are doing so with no regard for human life, including innocent children.

You say Israel has been reluctant to wage war but this operation has been planned for months.

For years I have supported the state of Israel. Now I am reconsidering and apologists like you are pushing me closer to not supporting them, just as I do not support Hamas (although I recognize both as elected governments).

They have gone too far. Israel is turning the world against them, and it has nothing to do with Anti-Semitism. It has to do with the policy and actions of the State of Israel.

      •  we are all terrorists (0+ / 0-)

The word "terrorist" means absolutely nothing. When people like the Bush White House or the Gov't in Tel Aviv (who I do not equate with Israel) talk of terrorists it's just propaganda. If the word existed in 1776 the brits would have called the Americans "terrorists" for the "Indian style" of fighting that our history books are so proud of. And if WW2 had turned out differently Harry Truman would have been hung by the balls for the fire-bombings in Germany & Japan as well as the atomic bombings.
Both sides in the Gaza conflict are wrong and both sides have legit gripes. There is too much suffering & someone needs to take the IDF & Hamas & bang their heads together until they stop this insanity.

        •  Leadership decapitation of Hamas is the goal (0+ / 0-)

It is clear that the IDF has set out to destroy the Hamas leadership and command and control capability. It will be a lot easier to negotiate with what is left. Hamas has been provoking this response and obviously failed to notice what happened to Herzbollah in the most recent war. No matter what has been said about that war, their leader regretted it and has stopped firing missiles.

You people who say that there aren't many Hamas supporters on this site, pay attention.

    •  Israel is not occupied territory (0+ / 0-)

The false logic here is that you comment assumes that the current inhabitants of Israel some how stole it from the "Palestinians"

This ignores the history of Palestine and its demographics.
Historic Palestine is where both Israel and Jordan now are.
There are jewish Palestinians that have roots back in the area for hundreds of years as there are Arab Palestinians.  Joan Peters authored From Time Immemorial which describes the evolution of the population demographics and there is no real logic to claims by Arabs that they some how own the land where Israel exists. The idea that prior ownership entitles them to Israel as Hamas asserts does not stand up to legal or historical analysis,
