He was able to understand that he fucked up, big-time, and he got caught, and that the honorable thing to do for the nation was resign, to avoid a nasty impeachment hearing.

Even if Congress had gotten it together to impeach Bush, Bush wouldn't have had the honor or the wisdom to resign; he and Cheney would have gone down with the ship.

    •  He tried to take on the power in a grab for real (0+ / 0-)

...political power from a right wing political base just as JFK represented a threat to the MIC and investment banking powers from a liberal Democratic base.

In America you can kill a Liberal and get away with it but a Rebublican right winger you have to frame and disgrace to get rid of.(Not that Tricky Dick didn't deserve it) It might intrest some of you to know the same cast of charachers in the Watergate break in were also involved in the Nov 1963 events in Dallas. Same team leader (E Howard Hunt), same handler, and many of the same team members. The MIC and banking/energy hiarchy tolerates no serrious opposition for either the American Left or right to their oligarchy. They prefer to have them fighting each other in a diversionary manner and not after their power.
