    Interesting argument. As impressive as the space shuttle is/was, what did it really accomplish for space exploration? Sure it was good for low orbit tinkering and experimentation, but the cost of the damn thing and the safety record, or lack thereof. Given the choice between the Space shuttle or the Russian Soyuz, to dock with the ISS, I'd chose the Soyuz. Next time, Nasa should put the service module atop the launch vehicle. Much safer. The next generation of US launch vehicles, if there is one, will look like the Saturn five.
