don't see the upset over that.  I give fuck all about who he has dinner with.  I want to find out what he's doing during the day, at work.

    •  Moral dichotomy (0+ / 0-)

I figure positions on morally reprehensible things like torture probably shouldn't differ from your  day job to your off-duty socializing. You either condone the Bush/Cheney use of torture, or you condemn it, and want to prosecute those who did it. Day or evening is irrelevant.

Since Obama chooses to socialize with people like those he dined with last night, it seems likely to me that Obama has no strong feelings against the use of torture, or in favor of the prosecution of the torturers, either.

I just wish he'd been a little clearer about his tolerance and acceptance of this kind of illegal activity during the campaign.

That is crazy.  So, he can't have dinner with who he wants?  Scary.  I can't be against torture more.  So, I guess I've really screwed up.  I have dinner with whoever I damn well please.  I couldn't imagine being so pure as to not associate with certain people.

I wouldn't have any opportunity to educate people if that were the case.  A few of my friends happen to be reformed Republicans.  If I didn't have dinner with them they wouldn't have voted Obama and helped swing Colorado.

You want to reevaluate what you just typed?  Stuff like that makes us look...extreme.

Like I suggested Obama should never have dinner with Republicans.

What I actually suggested is that Obama should have some scruples about SOCIALIZING - that is, VOLUNTARILY associating with- people who not only think torture is OK, but actively supported it and those who did it.

Fine point, I guess.  I just have qualms about my new PE getting too palsy with criminals and the people in the media who protect them. I plead guilty to being fussy about stuff like that.
