    Although I don't know that the world needs another impeachment diary.  Then again, I didn't know how long that comment would be when I started writing.

    Anyway, everything I've said there has been said before.  Most pro-impeachment people give DH an easy target to swat away, because their arguments are based on hope rather than a clear-eyed assessment of the situation, so he can tell himself he is on the side of Defending Logic.  But we've had a lot of impeachment advocates here -- occam's hatchet, for one -- who have had a very clear-eyed view of what could and could not be accomplished and what the costs were both of failure and of failure to try.

    He and I started very far apart on impeachment; as I recall, he was first an "Impeach Now!" type (which over time became redefined as "Investigate Now!) and I sounded much like DH, though more polite.  Over time, we both moved to the middle: "investigate, publicize, then decide whether to proceed."

    The dialectic works.
