About how she died of cancer at 69. Adele Davis was my hero in the 70s and still is. (Although her concoctions made with brewer's yeast, while undeniably good for you, really do taste like what my Dad described as "burnt owl shit" hahah).

Dinner tonight - soup made with all the leftover salad veggies in the frig plus cut up red onion and garlic, all sauteed first, leftover homemade mild salsa, a bag of frozen mixed veggies, some organic chicken broth, a bit more water, and a big scoop of Bob's Red Mill Vegi Soup Mix, with split peas, dried corn, dried barley and teeny pasta. Plus herbs and seasonings to taste. Yum. And stir in a spoon of plain yogurt in each bowl. Creamy, satisfying and way good for you. And uses up leftovers like you wouldn't believe.

Great topic. Recc'd. If I find a tip jar I'll tip.

"Let's Cook It Right" cookbook (for that very reason), but I definitely still read her other books.  I remember someone talking about Davis losing the cancer battle as if that proved she was wrong.  When I said, "At 69?" the person was shocked that Davis was that old - her "source" (food industry screed) had implied Davis was in her 30s.

And soup has always been the best way to use leftovers - best as in efficient and best as in nutrition.

        •  Yeah me too (0+ / 0-)

I'm sorry - the brewers yeast, orange juice, whatever stuff (which I made and fed to my Mom and Dad omg) was REALLY awful.

But she was right in general. And a pioneer for foodies and people interested in eating healthy.

Thanks for the reply fitz - I didn't think there were any other people out there that even remembered who Adelle Davis was.

She cracked me up when she talked about W. C. Fields - apparently he consulted her on health issues - she said "he managed to mix every health mix I gave him with ALCOHOL" omg lolol. Burnt owl shit and alcohol. PROBABLY not tasty hahaha.

I agree re soup. I make a lot of soups. I love my Crock Pot. :):):)

Take care, have a great weekend.
