  •  I don't believe you represent our candidate well. (1+ / 0-)

Even without going into whether or not your piece is offensive to
any of the frequently maligned groups you mention, the whole premise that folks should be ridiculed for expressing the opinions about how Obama is doing so far, in his public statements, cabinet picks, the selection of Warren is dubious at best.

I quess you would describe yourself as one of the so called "Obamacrats" whose loyalties, values, and orientation is all focused on him, rather than to the Democratic Party, progressive values,  or the traditional democratic processes of grass roots folks expressing their voices continuiusly, loudly, and frequently on all the issues that are important to them as we support here.

I haven't seen you, specifically do it, Badger but some of you apparently fellow travellers have trashed the GLBT for criticism of the Warren selection, which I also believe was a mistake.  T

They  disrepectfully "trashed" and tried to intimidate those who complained about Obama's FISA reversal, and those progressives who were concerned about the political philosophies of his cabinet choices.

If it is your intent to continue the ridicule anyone who would raise any questions about Obama and his direction, then I would like to make clear I disagree and disassociated myself from your kind of fun.

As I believe Obama would also do.   He has shown nothing but the highest respect for other folks, even those that disagree with him.

Perhaps, you should study his example more closely.

But, I'm very relaxed about it.  You can have fun anyway you like.  But if you believe this kind of behavior builds or celebrates coalitions, or causes us to "stay togather" I believe you are wrong.

The behavior of the worst extreme wing of the "Obamacrats" I describe about, achieves the opposite.

But, I know agree that you should not delete this diary, as I believe it should stand to serve as a counter-example of how to acheive your own purported goals of "keeping us together."

But I could be wrong.  Different strokes for different folks.  You obviously have plenty of people who agree with you, and I am a big Tent Democrat and Obama supporter, who has chosen to build coaltions with diverse groups that beleive differently than I do.

Just please know that many of the people in the groups you are having fun with, have been really tormented, ostracized, and hurt by ridicule and rejection.

And may not fully enjoy your humor.  There is a reason why people of color can make certain kind of jokes, or used certain words the rest of can not.   The same principle applies many other places, including here, IMO.  The different wing of the progressive coalition I was brought in has bent over backwords to make sure minority groups and those without power are treated with respect and inclusion.

To the point we'd rather err on the side of being
"prickly" than risk beeing seen as hateful or hurtful.

But, perhaps, I'm wrong.  Enjoy yourself.

    Cheers.

that someone as passionate and intelligent as yourself is a supporter of our next President.  I liked your entire comment except the title.  I gave everything I had for Mr. Obama.  And, will continue to do so.
The point is, everyone is unique, everyone hurts.
Again, thanks for the comment.  Enjoy the inauguration!

And if it will make you feel better, or build bridges between the wings of our party I will gladly retract, and apologize for the title suggesting "you don't represent our party well."

Now that I look at it more carefully,  I see this was wrong of me, as I have not idea what other excellent work you have no doubt done on Obama's behalf which I appreciate.

I guess, more technically, I should have said, when I casually, glance out a diary and see things that confuse me, I have thoughts come up for me about whether this is helping Obama's image or party solidarity.

But, I'm glad I checked it out further and find you to be such fine fellow, that I will retract even this, more technical explanation.

As long as you are aware of my concerns and everyone at your party is happy, and not hurt, then I can just pass by and say, have fun fellow Democrats.   I have other places I need to be, and will apologize is I made overly hasty and unfair generalizations based on insufficient evidence.

PS  In all honestly I have sometimes had "dubious fun"  myself in ways that have misunderstood by others.

I'm not alwasy this "prickly" and have been known on occassion to chuckle in a low key sort of way.  Mostly at my own jokes.

        Sorry.

        :-)
