  •  In light of his background... (5+ / 0-)

    ....there was plenty of irony:

Help us, O God, to remember that we are Americans, united not by race, or religion, or blood, but to our commitment to freedom and justice for all. When we focus on ourselves, when we fight each other, when we forget you, forgive us. When we presume that our greatness and our prosperity is ours alone, forgive us. When we fail to treat our fellow human beings and all the earth with the respect that they deserve, forgive us. And as we face these difficult days ahead, may we have a new birth of clarity in our aims, responsibility in our actions, humility in our approaches, and civility in our attitudes, even when we differ.

He's a theocrat with an grin that only Orange County money can buy and a figure to match.  Get back to me when it comes time to talk policy after the platform he now has should there be a power vacuum in the fight to oppose Obama's social policy agenda.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

I mean, in front of God and everybody, he talked about all this freedom and justice and respect.  That must be his policy, right? That we can call him on when his future pronouncements go in other directions?

      Yeah, in my dreams...

      •  His Policy Doesn't Apply To Him. (0+ / 0-)

As is the trait of Republicans it applies to others.  When they themselves or their family becomes subject to the policy and someone holds them accountable then suddenly they argue against their policy and are aghast at the consequences.  They gather all their enablers together (i.e. Nancy Pelosi types) and manage to get out of any accountability.

The enablers use rationalization like, its bad for the country, it is distruptive, it's unAmerican, it's uncouth, it's not the right time, etc., etc.

You see the apologists for these enablers say these things all the time here on Dkos.

it was fine and all the hand-wringing was for nothing...
