People have made worse mistakes.  What is there to apologize for, offending pedantic people with no sense humor?

If it was me, I'd make my apology as snarky as possible to give the very same pedants something new to whine about.  Maybe claim there were 45 presidents, or be more subtle say the the oath was originally written on a Wednesday when in fact was a Thursday.  Maybe claim the bible Obama swore on had 2034 pages when in fact it actually has 2012 pages.

      •  because this is the one official act that the (0+ / 0-)

chief justice of the supreme court has and if he can't condescend to read an index card and instead is such an arrogant asshole that he wings it and then fucks it up--apologize!

craig crawford thinks he ought to resign...

There is simply no excuse for United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts bungling the presidential oath of office to such an extent that Barack Obama might need to do it again, at least in private, to ensure the legality of his inauguration.

Roberts should be impeached and removed from office for this unforgivable error. The Constitution requires certain language for a presidential oath of office. Roberts blew it. And if he doesn't understand such things he should be fired for misfeasance of the first order.

        •  No it isn't (4+ / 0-)

          The Constitution says:

Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:  "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Nothing about who administers the oath.  It is only a tradition.  Per Wikipedia - Chief Justice of the United States:

In modern tradition, the Chief Justice also has the duty of administering the oath of office to the President, but this is not required by the Constitution or any other law.

A few hours after JFK's murder, U.S. District Judge Sarah Hughes administered the oath to LBJ on Air Force One.  When word reached Vice President Calvin Coolidge at his Vermont farm that President Harding had died, his dad, a justice of the peace, administered the oath to his son - the only time in U.S. history a father has sworn in his son as President.

            Further down the Wikipedia article:

Calvin Coolidge's father, a notary public, administered the oath to his son after the death of Warren Harding.  This, however, was contested upon Coolidge's return to Washington and his oath was re-administered by Judge A. Hoehling of the District of Columbia Supreme Court.

Obama laughed, I laughed, others around me laughed.  I guess some people have no humor and can't appreciate mistakes.  When a husband or wife forgets their wedding vows because they are nervous, do you go off the deep end saying whoever stumbled is an arrogant bastard that has no business getting married?

          Humor--it does the body good!

Bungling an oath ain't an impeachable offense. Some folks do need to grow up.

Craig Crawford needs to listen to Obama's inaugural address again. He didn't get it the first time.

the word order wrong would be almost as stupid as insisting that he should, or that he should be impeached for it. As Obama said, it's time to put childish things aside.

      •  Here is why this is "historic"! screwup! (0+ / 0-)

What a shame. When 10-50-100 years from now for whatever reason, some documentary will want to refer to the Inauguration of USA's first African-American President, they will have no recourse but to show that botched historic moment!! in all the grandeur and excitement yesterday at the West front of the Capitol and 2 million witnesses on the Mall.

That was the moment so many millions were waiting to see! and how many millions of citizens and around the world - on the Lincoln Bible yet!
