  •  Me 3, but it was really to protect Poppy (17+ / 0-)

GHWB's complicity in Iran-Contra was what this was really about, which is why it had to go back so far.

No matter how you shake it, it's all about Iran-Contra.

You know how we all have those little pet issues...not the big issues like health care or economic justice..but something more insiderish, something more personal?

This is that for me. This is Obama's victory paying off already. Adding on the whole anti-torture stuff, at least to me is frosting on the cake.

I apologize if this comes across as glib or insensitive to those other issues, really, all that stuff is more important. But there's just something about this that's important to me.

        •  That's an eight-year-long case... (0+ / 0-)

... of "Political Affective Disorder," which is related to Seasonal Affective Disorder.

The cure is natural bright sunlight.

I know what you mean about those other issues.  I keep switching the ones I think are important from minute to minute on the Scales of Justice.  So MANY things need fixing... it's difficult to know where to begin.  But begin Obama has, and I am beginning to feel a sense of hope that he'll sign the US back on to the ICC to prove that no one is above the law, that the law and our Constitution and the treaties incorporated into our Constitution as the 'law of the land' will start to mean something to our spineless chickenshite Congress Critters.

With the presidential papers from the past opening up... that opens the door for Judiciary Committees to START doing some intensive investigations on the lies and war crimes we didn't already know about.  With the Senate and House Judiciary Committees having access to papers that were denied them out of spite for the last eight years, and to which they were entitled (We The People, too, for that matter - there have been too damned many secrets these last eight years), the committees need to get off their arses and start processing information for war crimes trials and other charges.

I still want war crimes trials so that Justice can finally be had for those who died in vain or were maimed for life for the sake of lies for oil.  It's too late for revenge or retribution (but the reichwingnuts will still accuse "libruls" of wanting war crimes trials for revenge against Georgie and Dickie, and I don't give a bloody rat's ass what they think; I just want our politicians to act according to our laws and responsibly, ethically, and morally for a change)..., but maybe Justice can finally be served if those sealed papers can finally be shown the light.
