    Iceland is a very small nation, perhaps, but the thing about the mixed economies that form virtually the rest of the developed world is that workers often make lower pay either because of taxation or despite higher taxation. They've opted for community services, public elections, public health care, public education, et cetera.

      susie dow claims that the $100M indeed went to only a few people (which wasn't specified in this diary). If $100M indeed went to fewer than 100 people (therefore over $200,000 a year for 5 years), that could be a scandal, considering their work is now evidently worth quite a lot less than that solid compensation.

      But how your comment is relevant to that actual question and answer is totally unclear to me. And I'm not being glib at all when I say that.
