I didn't know much about the political/economic situation lately in Iceland, other than hearing that the country had gone bankrupt.

I had the good fortune to visit there a couple of times.  Relaxing in the Blue Lagoon was quite enjoyable - thermally heated sea water.  The main geothermal area is wonderful - Gulfoss is one of my all-time favorite waterfalls.  So powerful.  Standing at Þingvellir where the first parliament met was awesome, as well as scenic.  The landscape, lakes, and waterfalls at Mývatn in the north was spectacular.  The lava bread was delicious too.

    Thanks for this diary.
