    AND they're citizens, they're not going to be released HERE. They'll be sent to wherever they're citizens of, OR they'll be tried. Which means that they'll be in prison until the trial, and if they're found not guilty they'll be released to their home country.

    Yes, some of them might be dangerous - but they've been out of circulation for 6 yrs, many of their cohorts will be dead.

    And of course, there's no earthly reason why we can't watch them. Assuming they're tried and found not guilty.

    Which is a big, huge, if.

      the home countries won't take them back, thinking they have cooties. Thus, the need for some bystander countries to take them in, or they have to be released in the US and given residency status.

      Still, this argument that now they're all terrorists is easily disproved by counterexample. We have many cases of political prisoners imprisoned by oppressive regimes and then released who went on to be useful world citizens. I'm not saying we have Nelson Mandela's heir at Guantanamo, but I think it's worth remembering the more noble examples.
