  •  I worry more about an absolute government (7+ / 0-)

That can deprive anyone of their life and liberty for no stated reason, and deprive that person of any recourse.

We already live among many brutal criminals.  We manage to deal with them through the rule of law, preserving our civil liberties, and ensuring even the most murderous criminal a trial with representation.

If we can handle the thousands of criminals already out there through the rule of law, then why can't we handle a few dozen Al Queda suspects the same way?

    •  Exactly. (1+ / 0-)

What's more dangerous and has done more harm to our country?:

      - A couple hundred KNOWN detainees that MAY become terrorists again if we let them go, or

      - 8 years of virtual lawlessness under an unfettered US government run by incompetents and psychopaths?

I would argue the Bush admin has done far more damage to our country than the terrorists did on 9/11. The loss of lives and dollars would be pretty easy to quantify and compare, with the greater losses all caused by Bush/Cheney.
