Used to get people in rural areas to vote Republican against their economic interests.

democrats that believe in gun rights.  Howard Dean, Jim Webb, Jon Tester, should I keep going?

Since you are making blanket statements let me make one: gun control is a distraction issue embraced by big city politicians to distract their constituencies from the underlying causes of violence (poverty, despair, hopelessness) that aren't being addressed.

      •  Really? (0+ / 0-)

How about the NRA opposing Bloomberg's attempts to stop illegal gun trafficking into NYC?

How about politicians who grandstand on attempts to regulate assault rifles and exploding bullets saying those things are necessary to hunters?

Isn't that really creating a distraction?

        •  the distraction is created by the gun control (0+ / 0-)

lobby throwing around phrases like "exploding bullets" (already illegal, please provide a citation of them being used in recent crime) and "assault rifle" (most so-called assault rifles are semi-automatic and less powerful than older semi-automatic rifles like the M-1 Garand, which aren't regulated at all) to scare people into supporting your platform.

And what do hunters have to do with any of this?  The 2nd amendment wasn't designed to protect hunters.  It was designed to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
