  •  Reminds me of an interview (14+ / 0-)

I remember listening to an interview on NPR during the big auto show in Detroit with a top executive of GM, and the interviewer asked what it was like operating under government oversight, and the car exec went off on a long complaint about all the indignities the executives had to suffer now, having to stand in line at the airline ticket counters like the rest of the peasants, no corporate jets or special treatment, etc. The interviewer politely pushed on, I mean, what's it like running the company under government oversight? Oh, well we don't really know yet, since they haven't appointed the "car czar." It's telling that the first thing they do is whine about the loss of perks. To be fair, he wasn't overly upset about it or protesting it, but it just shows how attached execs are to their perks and how large these outer trappings of authority loom in their minds.
