  •  Yes, out in the Great Lakes, (0+ / 0-)

out of sight, is a great idea too. I just don't see the big "need" for these things at the expense of spoining my view, as one Euro company wants to do Right In My Backyard. Now, if my backyard had a crappy view I couldn't care less, but... the view is gorgeous. Stunning. Where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence. And, they want to muck that up?? Well, yeah, sure, becuz they don't live here. They're just looking at all them green dollars. ka ching. But, the view is WAY WAY more valuable than any clean energy that could be generated by their Wind Farm spoiling that view. Way! Instead of near the shore, put them out on the lake 8 or 9 miles. Or more. Costs more to maintain?? Aww. I really object to this technology being forced on neighborhoods by entities that don't live in those neighborhoods or give a damn about "the view," thoughts of Green Dollars filling their heads.

    •  more to build, less potential available (0+ / 0-)

pushes the cost of the power generated up considerable, plus limits the amount that can e produced - there's a lot less Great Lakes than Great Plains.

In short, more coal fired power plants.

Besides, micro-grids - local power generation - is all the rage among dkos commenters.

    •  So do you object to the Plains states? (0+ / 0-)

Your concern seems limited to your particular situation or similar situations.  Your situation does not lead to Loretta's conclusion that wind farms only belong offshore.

      •  Plains States sounds like a damn fine (0+ / 0-)

spot for 'em!! I just object to these "Green Companies" coming in here from a foreign country, barging in like they own the frickin' place, dick tating to the residents here what they're going to do and where they're going to do it, and who they're going to do it to, the view be damned. And, the frickin' "local Gov't" just rolls over and says, "sure, fine. have a ball." Rotten frickin' bastids! Sorry, but we just Do Not Need "green megawatts" that badly. We just don't.
