    but some demographic information could be interesting, as well.  Population info can give some insight into what makes the country tick - average age (very low in many of the more troubled countries), rural/urban breakdown, religious affiliations, schools/medical personnel per 1,000 people... that kind of thing.

    To get some inspiration, look back at the way Nate Silver factored demographics in his state-by-state analysis during the election.  Each state was ranked from 1-50 in comparison to the others on 16 different factors.  Obviously, you wouldn't use many of these in your pieces, but you could probably find some parallels.  Here's Nate's list of factors.  I was going to link to one of the charts so you could see how they looked but he has taken them down.  :-(  However, if you were a 538 junkie during the campaign, you probably remember them.
