  •  still flacking for a non-candidate? (0+ / 0-)

I'm sorry you think an excess of democracy is a bad thing.  I think single-candidate elections stink.

    •  In fairness to her (0+ / 0-)

I'd happily support a primary if Carolyn Maloney or Jerry Nadler decided to run.  I think in that case it's worth the political costs of an ideological fight.  Opposing capital punishment, opposing work requirements and arbitrary time limits for receiving TANF funds, opposing the Flag Desecration Amendment, and opposing DOMA -- all positions which Maloney and Nadler embrace -- goes a long way for me.

While I agree with Carolyn McCarthy on gun control, she's taken too many other Republican positions -- i.e., her votes for the Tax Limitation and Flag Desecration Amendments, her votes for the Republican tax cuts during the Clinton years, etc. to support a primary.  I'd rather spend the money on Robin Carnahan, Paul Hodes, or Dan Gelber or Kendrick Meek where the ideological differences between the presumptive Democratic nominee and presumptive Republican nominee are much greater.
